Every Garden
Don’t worry, darlin
Because I am waiting by
A note or ransom
To pass me by
I am a shock bound wave
On a mount of seascape lives
Oh holy south in a sunrise
We’ve got a mean run on our gardens small
Oh save our souls until we grow tall
And such a merry little thing it is
To be told so
After all what do we really know
And all of the little stories that we write justly to
They are the Roots and the Crops that we must navigate through
We will grow large if we wait
And that is all that I want to cultivate
We are just dancing below ice taverns built
By old bones that sew an hourglass quilt
That maybe someday, life willing
We might know so well
And every garden that I will ever see
Will unearth a part of you in me
Oh yes every little garden that I will ever see
Will unearth a part of you in me
And all of the little stories that we write justly to
They are the Roots and the Crops that we must navigate through
We will grow large if we wait
And that is all that I want to cultivate
Mischief
Anchors on my mind
Tastes like copper, tastes like wine
And do you ever smile and nod
And I wish I could lie down beside you
Is that so far away
Well there you go
You go your own way
There is no need for magicians anymore
To turn mountains into madness
Running my hands along the floor
You know, we were never really late
Because there is always more
But never mind it all
Just relax and enjoy hanging on
Years of kicking around some corner happening by
Thinking this has got to be my time this has got to be a sign
And that became my lullaby, where did I put my old clothes
I want to pick them up
Try them on
See if that changes how the story goes
Wiping off our crowns on the run
Please pardon us
Because we are mischief for the young
We are only getting away with sound
Our strength becomes us in a small town
We are mischief for the young
Tiny white lights shine, the radio booms
The rest on our feet is coming home soon
When we get out, when we fall in
It seems there is always a place in my home
That I’ve never been
Wiping off our crowns on the run
Please pardon us
Because we are mischief for the young
We are only getting away with sound
Our strength becomes us in a small town
We are mischief for the young
You shine your light too far for us to see, well we will always be waiting for more
Yea I know we should only take what we need
But I still see pieces of you on the floor
And in the corners everywhere
It’s a place that they have settled for
Well there is always a place they will settle for
Anchors on my mind
Tastes like copper, tastes like wine
Well there you go
You go your own way
I always knew
They you would go your own way some day
You go your own way
Follow Through
It’s just another day away
Just another sunny morning until I’m better off than today
I’m stepping up on the boundaries of what I want to do
I’m going to pick the task at hand
And follow it through
Today I am just going to stay out of the big scene
Idling off of the golden crest of my biggest drama queen
To what extremity should you and I stay clean
Are we doing ourselves a favor
Or are we living out of a magazine
We are just products torn between our own time lines
The clock is ticking every moment is the right time
A careful shadow stretches across the horizon
And I am watching my skin stretch mile for mile
Hanging onto the notion that a whim will never save me
Holding fast to the lessons that I have learned
From a child
Students of this life, we’ve got a gift in front of our eyes
The power to unite
Mothers, doctors, congressmen
The patchwork quilt is woven permanent and tight
By what we bring to this land
By our own hands
And the power of the people may strain to the guidelines
Is the truth in your soul bound to tight to unwind
Deep in the mantle of organized crime
A hidden number silently waits
Until whatever god awful joke that we call the president
Decides what else he is going to take
Well its like playing cards, he says
I play by the rules,
I’ll take from the senior citizens
And then I’ll drain the schools
And maybe I won’t get wild acclaim
From our children, and our elderly
But at least I’ll go out knowing
They will remember me.
And we can’t slalom through all that we can’t undo
We need to pick the task at hand and follow it through
Don’t Know When
Little girl you got lost
Clouds in your head
Turn around don’t fight
See the moonlight instead
And you hold on too tight
Better to pick up the pieces
In a different light
And when you fell down I picked you up
I know you didn’t want me to
But some days time is so abrupt
And we are just following our cue
I realize that the mystery that unfolds
Stems from our own intention
We bleed the lines in silence
Follow direction by some order of blindness
And now I am pulling this heavy vessel to the sea
But I know that I won’t get shaken down
I said I won’t get shaken down
So give me your light
Give me your dark
Rub through my shell
Just to make a mark
I’ve been steadfast
Circling again and again
Trying to find the right time
But I guess I don’t know when
You know you’ve got your armor made
To take all of the harsh winds that force themselves
Through your doorways
You know its always a living tribute to your one little dream
When you do things only your way
And time is a jubilant marionette
Dancing freely, what you see is all you get
And kind eyes have little to lose
When you’ve got nothing to prove
And you remember when you started
I’ll follow my signs and you follow yours
Maybe it will lead us to the same door
Go on my friend
But please don’t return
Every little lesson that we’ve come around to learn
Little girl you got lost
Clouds in your head
Turn around don’t fight
See the moonlight instead
And you hold on too tight
Better to pick up the pieces
In a different light
Closer
Looks like this ship is leaving
And if you jump I fare thee well
But you know it never takes too much time to turn things around
I’ve been holding up this wall for years with two fingers
And its still standing strong, but tell me what if it fell
What would I do with all my hopes aloft
No I’m not going to hide behind any rainstorms today
Just blue skies
Just blue skies
And if you’ve got a problem, then be clear
No stakes are high enough to bring us to our knees
I think the only trouble with lessons learned, my darling
Is that we can’t always choose them as we please
We just have to trust in whatever feels right
We better hand out more faith than we’re using
See we can’t stockpile for rainy days anymore
Just blue skies
Just blue skies
In distant relations, people setting up their forts and their stations
Has our right to bear arms to one another
Become more important than our patience
Because you know we come from different walks of life
Sunshine against naked skies
Where were you’s
And who am I’s
And it all ends way too soon
I might remember if I still have room
But when the clouds are too thick
The sun won’t burn through
The sun won’t burn through
But I’m in good shape
When I’ve got a warm cup of coffee and a bus ride home
I’m in good shape
When I’ve got a mouth full of words and a microphone
I see now
That we just have to learn how
To look closer
Look a little closer
Hit and Miss
Can’t find no rest behind these broken bars tonight
Over the fiery mountaintops I lay awake keeping ablaze our only light
From the west came a man, iron clad with two canaries in his hand
And he said I’m going down south, I’m going to pick my feet up
Right until they land
And he rolled out of sight
And he said
It’s a hit and miss
Our ill received bliss
We take it in doses till there’s nothing left
In the old pines, a savage song beyond any ordinary tale
It was there I met my first set of eyes in darkest night could prevail
Those shadows did breathe a holy choir through me until I cried
Locked fast to my demons inside
And didn’t let them go until they died
And a whole sanctuary has been left behind
And I never knew for sure
What haste I could endure
But gravity always beats me to the finish line
An old man who lives by the sea said the spirits here
They’ve been saving me
And though I understood little of what he said
I walked away knowing that I did believe
He said I’ve been knocked down to the ground so many times,
But every time I find
That you can lose your pride in the face of victory
But the real battle exists in our own minds
And I know that he is right.
Because he said
It’s a hit and miss
Our ill received bliss
We take it in doses until we consume ourselves
The Sea and The Mountainside
Will I ever truly know what time it is
Or how the seasons change
I put each day in a lineup
Just to move them out of place
Whenever I return home
I am hiding from my own time zone
The wild world in my bones
Do you remember the calling of the dawn
How quickly silence is drawn
And what wonder
Did we call each evening upon
Fresh footprints in the lawn
Every day and its very own song
To each new awakening
Will you know me when I am just a breeze
A whisper through the leaves
And did I tell you
How you carried me
When I couldn’t understand
And we would be on our feet when we land
Our wooden anchor set to sea
I’m setting up camp on the edge by and by
I’m a rock solid pilot who is scared to fly
So please don’t throw me a rope next time
I need to fall
I need to learn how to climb
With each root and each grain
Grace unfolds
Her never-ending molds
I’m jumping trains with the pale moon sky
And we are standing on the bloom
We are tiptoeing through the room
We are the sea and the mountainside
The sea and the mountainside
The sea and the mountainside
Tidal Waves
Tidal waves
Whoa here they come
Tidal waves
Moving us along
Its as if we’ve been stolen back from the tides
And now they are putting us
Where we belong
It’s hard to be simple
Sometimes
But you have to clear some space for your mind
If you let them run all over you
Then you will find
That this is how you live all the time
I would like to take this chance to thank human kind
You’ve made me realize how selfish I have been
But we all have to fall deeper and deeper down
Before we can look within
At 2 a.m. will you sit with me again
Will you show me your vice
Is it designed to look pretty and nice
Because I have a lot of room upstairs
And I could surely use some advice tonight
Tidal waves
Whoa here they come
Tidal waves
Moving us along
Its as if we’ve been stolen back from the tides
And now they are putting us
Right we belong
Once this veil is lifted won’t we see what we’ve been missing
After all this push and pull and shove
We’ll know that all we had to do is listen
And could it be that we are merely petals and soil
Everything looks so much smaller from above
Would we cheapen the feeling if we chose to call this love
Would we disturb our hard foundation
If we knew just what we were speaking of
By the means of no one else examine your own right to be
The map unfolds in all directions
So really there is no right or wrong
And as you say these angry thoughts
They just keep on following me
There is a wide-open spot in your mind for you to know
That you belong
Tonight
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
I can see them coming down
So we best not go out tonight
It’s hard to sleep in an iron cast
It hugs you deep
It holds you back
So lord knows
I best stay out of sight
Black tie
White suit
Stay where
They can’t find you
In the dark, you wait till morning comes
Well I’ve heard
Too many times
If you’re looking for gold
Copper is what your are going to find
So strike me down I won’t go out
Without a fight
Turning
Rolling
Hills turn into roads and if I’m right
I best stay off of this one tonight
All The Way Home
You look like I feel when I’m holding on
Until we subside to the floor
And suddenly hopeless abandon
To every season of despair
Natural grace working slowly to
Mend and repair
And though I can’t describe with words easily
Your tide always rises
Until finally, we meet halfway
And did you know
Years of slumbering down below
Rocks and stones did soften me
All the way home
And I never really knew what it was to care
But you gathered me and took me there
With no reason or excuse
To smother endlessly or abuse
And half of my body is resting
In the desert hills
Praying if the sun does not leave me blinded
Nothing ever will
To conquer this army of need
Can be as simple as following the stem to the seed
Only planted a few years ago
For picking the finest that grows
May very well be
All that we know
So lets break these confines down again
Shed our old minds
We’ve got to think bigger if we’re going to make a difference this time
So don’t be scared
To know your weakness well
We’ve got plenty of time to live into
All of the stories that we sell
And then there was you
Even when I forget myself
Suddenly you
And you must burn so bright
Because I can see nothing else
If in my heart I should go blind
Its only because you are a light
Of a different kind
Lightning rods
Was I just a part of your genius plan
Swimming in your big old sea,
Keeping my head up as high as I can
With your wise canoes
And your laughing boats
They all knew
That this lightning rod would not float
Mr. green dream, Mr. action team
Mr. dancing dangerous is torn at the seams
And he’s hanging high
On the notion that he will forever know
The shortcut to the sky
I’ve been hiding in true form
And you are the hurricane
And I am weathering the storm
I am rattling off history
Naming the facts
And you are too busy
Tearing up hills and houses
To relax
Chorus:
We’re on a magic carpet
An airbus in the sky
And we are bound to crash
The fear will take you away
If you give it even one more chance
The longer that I don’t look down
Is the longer that I’ve got
To make this last
It’s strange that when you are waiting
For something to change
It happens twice as fast
The dawn is careful, courageous and shy
She folds into my dreams and opens up my eyes
And asks me quietly, as if tender and small
That I please keep watch of her
Until she falls
So I led a small army today
To lofty branches
To bend and sway
Well off of the grid of tomorrow
Or yesterday
We made the ferns into our homes
Under the earth where we lay
And now we don’t have to look anymore
We’ve got no use for whatever we were looking for
We’ve just got safe dreams
And high hopes
This great big old sea
And our sailboat
A lightning rod hits the land
With more strength than we could ever understand
And no question of whether or not it should
It just came because it could
Chorus:
We’re on a magic carpet
An airbus in the sky
And we are bound to crash
The fear will take you away
If you give it even one more chance
The longer that I don’t look down
Is the longer that I’ve got
To make this last
It’s strange that when you are waiting
For something to change
It happens twice as fast
